The commonality among the 5 places with the longest-living people is that "It appears to increase our happiness."

Dan Buettner, after 20 years of interviewing centenarians and visiting "Blue Zones," discovered something unexpected.

According to Buettner, when you analyze global happiness data while accounting for other factors, individuals residing near water are found to be more content than those who do not.

All five Blue Zones are located near water.

Despite the numerous explanations for this phenomenon, the outcome is evident.

"Buettner suggests that the calming effect of water or the moderate climate due to water may contribute to happiness."

A 2017 study in BMJ Open found that spending time near water bodies can improve health and well-being, and reduce the risk of disease.

Miami Beach is where Buettner resides, and he believes geography significantly impacts his well-being. However, he emphasizes that it's not just the water that contributes to his healthy lifestyle, but also the location and weather.

"He reveals to Make It that he is currently gazing at the ocean, where he swims daily, and the beach where he walks every day. He intentionally selected this location to make it effortless and tempting to engage in physical activity all year round without much effort."

He strives for daily exercise by engaging in enjoyable activities such as stand-up paddle surfing or walking.

"According to Buettner, the misconception is that intense physical activity is the key to achieving fitness goals. In reality, the opposite is true. When there is no pain involved, individuals are more likely to engage in daily physical activity, leading to gains in fitness."
