The author of 'Smart, Not Loud' recommends that every employee has a 'Yay Folder' to boost their productivity and motivation.

The CEO of SoulCast, a communication training agency, discusses in her new book "Smart, Not Loud" how not speaking up for herself has impacted her in the workplace.

Silently completing tasks is not an effective strategy for advancing in the workforce after several years.

In her book, she presents several strategies for celebrating your successes and using them to secure promotions without coming across as boastful or arrogant.
One you can do in seconds: create a "Yay Folder."

A "Yay Folder" is a designated location for storing emails of appreciation. If your boss commended your excellent performance in a staff memo or a client expressed satisfaction with your work, save those emails in your "Yay Folder."

Stefanie Fackrell, a HR consultant with experience at Google and Nvidia, advised CNBC Make It earlier this year that this advice can also be applied when enhancing a resume.
"Record your achievements as they occur so you'll have a record of them," she advises.
