La La Anthony emphasizes the importance of having multiple sources of income, stating that relying on just one stream is "crazy."
A third of American adults have a side hustle, according to a survey by financial services company Bankrate published in July.
La La Anthony advises that doing only one thing is not enough and one should strive to do multiple things to achieve success.
She gained notoriety as a music video and performance announcer for MTV broadcasts, and recently co-hosted the live stream of this year's Met Gala.
Alani Vázquez, who is known as Anthony on TV, has a successful acting career on shows like Power and BMF on Starz.
Anthony shared with CNBC Make It that at one point, individuals were limited to doing only one thing, or people only desired them to focus on one task.
"It wasn't like a VJ, an actor, or a producer. It was like you were just one thing. However, I believe now it's a different era, a different day, where everyone is multitasking."
Having a side hustle isn't just about earning additional income, but also about pursuing multiple interests and pivoting if necessary, says Anthony.
Anthony says, "We all know when we've reached that point where we want to try something different, or we feel stagnant in a job. I was always with the mindset that as soon as it started feeling like a job, I knew it was time to do something else."
"You'll always hear people say, 'Don't change what you're doing. You've got something good going. Just stay put.' But you know how you feel."
Anthony is a living testament to being able to do a lot of different things and excel at them and be great.
Anthony also acknowledges the importance of slowing down and taking breaks.
Over a decade ago, she was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis, a skin condition characterized by itchy, painful rashes. The physical effects of the autoimmune disease on the skin can also lead to emotional distress and sleep disruptions.
Anthony, who recently partnered with Amgen, a biotech company, to raise awareness about the condition, describes the onset of the skin rash as rough, itchy patches appearing on his ears, eyebrows, and scalp.
By educating herself and researching plaque psoriasis, she was able to "remove the negative connotation" and become enthusiastic about assisting others with the condition. Additionally, she places a greater emphasis on her mental well-being compared to before.
Anthony acknowledges the significance of maintaining a balance and taking care of mental health, recognizing the importance of self-reflection and seeking support from loved ones or professionals when necessary.
Though she juggles multiple roles, she never forgets to have fun. Anthony says, 'I don't want life to just feel like work. So finding ways to just find the joy and have fun along the journey,' and he never really looks at it as work but as something he's excited to do and loves to do.
