Natasha Badger, 25, successfully landed final-round interviews with three companies in weeks by using a different strategy on LinkedIn. This approach could benefit job-seekers in avoiding ghost jobs and reaching a real hiring manager.

In September 2022, Badger, a digital marketer and career-content creator, left her job at LinkedIn and followed the typical path of searching for new opportunities on online job boards.

She started searching for LinkedIn posts containing the phrases "I'm hiring" and related job titles and keywords in her field after a month.

Badger shared on TikTok how she filtered LinkedIn posts to those made recently, resulting in her discovering hiring managers and other professionals announcing new job openings on their teams.

By prioritizing recent posts, she was able to quickly discover new job openings and receive notifications about people who were urgently seeking to fill a long-standing vacancy.

Beware of job scams while searching for openings in your desired location, advises Badger to CNBC Make It.

Badger contacted the individual after discovering a suitable job posting on LinkedIn, expressing interest in the position and requesting a 10- to 15-minute coffee chat to inquire about the job.

Sending your resume too early could come across as forward, and your LinkedIn profile should be up-to-date with your experience.

Other times, the person responded with the direct application link and got her into the hiring pipeline right away.

In every coffee chat, Badger demonstrated a thorough comprehension of the company's needs and the challenges she would be tasked with resolving.

Understanding the reasons for your hiring, your role in the business, and the impact you'll make is a valuable skill, according to Badger. Conducting research will help you present yourself confidently.

She ensured that she had questions prepared about things she was genuinely curious about for each role and company.

Akkio, a New York-based startup, hired Badger as their digital marketing manager after she successfully made it into the hiring process with three companies, including a big financial institution and an agency.

Although the job market has become more challenging for many workers, recent developments suggest that things may be improving. The U.S. economy surpassed expectations by adding more jobs in September, and some experts predict an increase in hiring activity in the final months of 2024.
