According to Mõttus' article in Psychology Today, individuals with higher salaries, strong social connections, and good health report higher levels of life satisfaction compared to those with lower incomes, weak relationships, or poor health.
Mõttus stated that these factors are weaker than many people believe.
Certain traits are better indicators of a person's life satisfaction.
4 traits of highly satisfied people
People who have higher life satisfaction tend to be:
- Emotionally stable
- Conscientious
- Extroverted
- Agreeable
In 2020, a meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the link between the Big Five personality traits and life satisfaction, and the results showed a strong correlation between the two.
This year, researchers tested whether defining personality traits based on self-description and loved ones' descriptions would yield different results.
Mõttus wrote that besides the Big Five traits of emotional stability, extroversion, and conscientiousness, satisfied people were characterized by feeling understood, excited, and decisive, while less satisfied people tended to feel envious, bored, used, unable, and unrewarded.
