According to a new report from Indeed, veterinarians are the best job around, ranking as one of the top 25 jobs for the year.

The analysis identifies high-paying jobs that are in demand and have grown significantly on Indeed in the past three years, with at least 5% of the postings being remote or hybrid, and ranked by their frequency on the platform.

Veterinarians earn an annual median salary of nearly $140,000 per year, which is roughly three times the median salary for Americans. Additionally, opportunities for veterinarians on Indeed have more than doubled between 2021 and 2024, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the profession will grow another 19% through 2033, while all other occupations are expected to grow an average of 4% during that timeframe.

Veterinarians usually possess a bachelor's degree in biology or agriculture, with some holding a master's or PhD. After four years of veterinary school, they may undertake a year-long internship or a residency, which can last two to three years. To become licensed, veterinarians must pass a national exam, and most states have additional requirements.

The shortage of veterinarians in the U.S., particularly in rural areas, is due to the extensive and costly years of training, long hours, and mental health stressors associated with dealing with animal owners.

Despite the high demand for pets, the American Veterinary Medical Association states that the amount people are willing to spend on their pets is directly linked to the strength of the economy.

According to Pew Research Center, over 60% of Americans own a pet.

According to Indeed, the top four best-paying jobs with growing demand are:

1. Veterinarian

Median annual salary: $139,999 per year

Number of job postings per 1 million total jobs: 1,065

Growth in postings from 2021 to 2024: 124%

2. Sales representative

Median annual salary: $182,487 per year

Number of job postings per 1 million total jobs: 961

Growth in postings from 2021 to 2024: 76%

3. Physician

Median annual salary: $225,000 per year

Number of job postings per 1 million total jobs: 705

Growth in postings from 2021 to 2024: 76%

4. Civil engineer

Median annual salary: $100,872 per year

Number of job postings per 1 million total jobs: 584

Growth in postings from 2021 to 2024: 104%

Specialized jobs in health care and engineering are in high demand, reflecting society's need for workers with extensive education and training.

According to Indeed postings, the No. 2 best job of sales representative can command a six-figure salary with just a high school diploma. However, sales reps working in specialized fields, like medicine, may benefit from additional schooling, Indeed notes.

The median annual salary for physician No. 3 is $225,000, and the health-care sector has experienced an 8% growth in the past two years, as reported by the BLS. The aging population is the primary driver of the rising demand for health-care workers, as older individuals require more healthcare services. Additionally, many aging doctors are retiring, necessitating the training of their replacements.

Civil engineers are among the top four best jobs, with an average annual salary of over $100,000. They plan, design, and supervise infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, and tunnels.

Radiologists are among the highest-paid professionals on Indeed's best jobs list, with a median annual salary of over $385,000.

Radiologists, who specialize in diagnosing injuries and diseases through medical imaging, need approximately 13 to 15 years of higher education, including obtaining a bachelor's degree, completing medical school, a radiology residency, and an optional fellowship. In order to practice, they must also obtain specific licenses and certifications.

Since 2021, the number of radiologist jobs on Indeed has increased by 87%, resulting in 194 job postings per every 1 million on the platform.
