The policy announcement has negatively affected Amazon workers' morale, and the change may disproportionately impact parents and caregivers who benefit from remote and hybrid flexibility.
A recent Glassdoor survey revealed that 74% of Amazon employees are considering a change in their career path, either within the company or elsewhere.

An anonymous survey created by Amazon workers revealed that they are "strongly dissatisfied" with the policy change, according to Fortune. The survey was shared on company Slack channels, including a "remote advocacy" group with more than 30,000 members, whose support of flexible work could skew the findings.
According to Fortune, the survey creators plan to share the findings with Jassy and other leaders to give them a clear understanding of the policy's impact on employees, including the challenges and proposed solutions.
In February 2023, a group of Amazon employees wrote a six-page memo expressing their concerns about the company's decision to return to the office three days a week. However, their concerns were not taken into consideration.
Jassy observed that the company's hybrid return has resulted in teamwide improvements, including easier learning, modeling, and practicing of the company's culture; more effective collaboration, brainstorming, and inventing; smoother teaching and learning from one another; and better connections among teams, as he announced the new five-day requirement in his memo.
"The last 15 months of being back in the office at least three days a week has strengthened our conviction about the benefits."
