While Hawaii is often considered the happiest state in America, a recent study reveals that Wyoming residents have the most optimistic outlook on life.

Wakefield Research supported Icelandic Provisions in determining where states fall on the optimism scale by focusing on the "bowl half full" perspective.

A survey was conducted by the company on 5,000 U.S. adults, including 100 participants from each state, in partnership with Dr. Deepika Chopra, a behavioral scientist known as "The Optimism Doctor."

The Optimism Index Score of an individual could range from 0 to 10, and was determined by evaluating 10 metrics, including their likelihood to persist in difficult circumstances and their frequency of exercising or eating a nutritious breakfast. According to the press release, the scores were averaged to obtain a state's overall optimism level.

Despite being renowned for its excellent weather and contented inhabitants, Hawaii did not rank among the top five on the list.

Wyoming is the most optimistic state in America

The U.S. state with the highest level of optimism is Wyoming, with a score of 7.2.

Wyoming residents tend to have a more optimistic view of life, with 82% reporting that they wake up ready to take on the day compared to 62% of Americans, according to a study.

In the Equality State, 98% of residents are determined to persist and attempt again after failing a project.

Two categories stood out as vital for higher levels of optimism:

  • Possessing a positive outlook on life entails being less affected by daily irritations and more resilient in the face of adversity.
  • Incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine, such as eating a nutritious breakfast, engaging in regular physical activity, and spending more time outdoors.

Although Wyoming ranked low on WalletHub's Happiest States in America list, residents of Wyoming expressed optimism and a willingness to overcome challenges in a study by Icelandic Provisions.

  3. New Jersey
  4. Alabama
  5. Maryland

No. 2 on the list was California, renowned for its residents' healthy lifestyles and for being the first state to implement health-conscious practices such as restaurant smoking bans.

A great night's rest is often reported by 43% of California survey participants, while 81% begin their day with a healthy breakfast.

According to the report, "New Jersey's high optimism is linked to a strong emphasis on physical health, with 45% of residents reporting they get enough exercise, compared to only a third of Americans."
