The CIA announced on Thursday that Director William Burns had tested positive for Covid-19.

On Wednesday morning, Burns, who is fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19, had a socially distanced meeting with President Joe Biden while wearing an N-95 mask.

The intelligence agency stated that their interaction does not constitute close contact as per CDC guidelines, and Director Burns is disclosing his positive test out of transparency.

Burns will continue to perform his duties as CIA director but will work from home until he returns to the office following a negative test and after isolating for five days. The agency stated that Burns has experienced mild symptoms.

Two other virus cases within Biden's orbit preceded Burns' positive test.

On Sunday, White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced that she had tested positive for Covid-19. This positive test result came after White House press secretary Jen Psaki had also tested positive for the virus, which prevented her from traveling with Biden to Belgium and Poland.

At the time, Psaki stated that Biden was not classified as a close contact after two socially distanced meetings.

This month, the White House announced that Vice President Kamala Harris would skip a scheduled event due to concerns about Covid-19 after second gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive for the virus.

On Wednesday, Biden, who is 79 years old, got his fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
