A 39-year-old Russian-born billionaire was charged with failing to prevent criminal activities on his platform by France's OFMIN, which is responsible for protecting minors from violence. According to AFP, the charges against Durov include organized crime, drug trafficking, fraud, cyberbullying, and the promotion of terrorism.

The app, with approximately 800 million users, is popular in both Russia and Ukraine.

The Russian embassy in France promptly requested clarification from French authorities regarding Durov's detention and demanded that his rights be protected and that he be granted consular access. The embassy officials were in touch with Durov's lawyer, as stated in a message posted on Telegram.
