Ukraine faces 45 drone attack from Russia amid war cabinet changes in Kyiv.
On Sunday, Russian forces launched 45 drones over Ukraine in a five-and-a-half-hour barrage, officials said, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued reshuffling his war cabinet as the war enters its third year.
The Ukrainian air force reported that it had destroyed 40 Iranian-made Shahed drones across nine regions, including near Kyiv's outskirts.
Officials from Ukraine's southern defense forces reported on Telegram that a five-and-a-half-hour attack targeted agricultural facilities and coastal infrastructure in the Mykolaiv region. The attack resulted in the injury of one person, caused a fire, and damaged nearby residential buildings.
In Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine, another person was injured due to a blaze that occurred when debris from a destroyed drone fell, as stated by Serhiy Lysak, the head of the region's military administration.
Zelenskyy's military shakeup continues as strikes are launched against Russian forces.
On Sunday, Kyiv declared that Lt. Gen. Alexander Pavlyuk would succeed Col. Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi as the commander of Ukraine's ground forces. Syrskyi had previously held the post and was named as the replacement for Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, who is stepping down as Ukraine's military chief.
The new presidential decrees appointed Yurii Sodol, the former head of Ukraine's marine corps, as the commander of Ukraine's combined forces, Brig. Gen. Ihor Skibiuk as commander of Ukraine's air assault forces, and Maj. Gen. Ihor Plahuta as commander of Ukraine's territorial defense forces.
The new commander-in-chief Syrskyi aims to enhance troop rotation at the front lines and utilize new technology to bolster Kyiv's defensive forces.
Starlink concerns
On Sunday, Ukraine's military intelligence service announced that Russian forces were using Starlink terminals to aid their attacks, as evidenced by a recording of an intercepted conversation between two Russian soldiers.
Space X's satellites, which are used in Starlink terminals, have been crucial in providing Ukraine's military with a competitive advantage against Russian invaders.
Recent reports in the Ukrainian media suggest that Russian troops are using Starlink on the front line in occupied Ukraine.
Space X was urged to issue a statement on social media on Feb. 8, confirming that it had no business dealings with the Russian government or its military.
Moscow has been able to evade sanctions by importing Western tech components through third countries.
Zelenskyy stated on Telegram Saturday that he aimed to "revitalize" Ukraine's military leadership with seasoned commanders.
He stated that individuals who are renowned in the military and have a deep understanding of the army's requirements are assuming new duties.
