On Wednesday, Donald Trump, the president-elect, requested the Georgia Court of Appeals to put an end to the criminal case concerning his attempt to overturn his loss in the 2020 Georgia presidential election.
Trump's lawyer Steven Sadow filed a request with the appeals court to confirm its lack of jurisdiction over the case and instruct a trial-level state court in Atlanta to immediately dismiss the indictment against the president-elect.
Trump's victory in the 2024 election led Georgia courts to lose jurisdiction over the case, according to Sadow.

In his filing in Georgia on Wednesday, Sadow stated that a sitting president is immune from indictment or any criminal process, according to the U.S. Constitution.
Sadow wrote that the appeals court should inquire into its jurisdiction to continue hearing the appeal well before the inauguration, despite Trump not being sworn in until Jan. 20.
"The continued indictment and prosecution of President Trump by the State of Georgia are unconstitutional, and this Court should decide that both this Court and the trial court lack jurisdiction to entertain any further criminal process against him, as he wrote."
Before the election, the criminal case was put on hold while Trump attempted to disqualify Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney, due to her romantic relationship with a prosecutor on her team.
On Wednesday, Sadow stated that Jack Smith had dropped two federal criminal prosecutions against Trump due to his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.
