Trump's actions at Arlington were disrespectful and used for political gain, according to Harris.
  • Kamala Harris criticized Trump for using his visit to Arlington National Cemetery for political gain, which is forbidden.
  • The Arlington Cemetery employee has been criticized for the confrontation with Trump's campaign staff during his visit to the cemetery to mark the three-year anniversary of the deaths of 13 American soldiers in Afghanistan.
  • Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, defended Trump's visit and blamed the Biden-Harris administration for the soldiers' deaths on social media.

On Saturday, Vice President Kamala Harris criticized former President Donald Trump for filming at Arlington National Cemetery, stating that he was using his visit for political gain, which is strictly prohibited.

"In a lengthy X post, Harris wrote: "The former president disrespected sacred ground for a political stunt, showing that he is incapable of understanding anything other than self-service.""

Trump's running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, responded to Harris' criticism in a social media post, accusing her of incompetence and stating that Trump was present at the invitation of families who had lost loved ones due to her actions.

Vance suggested investigating the unnecessary deaths instead of staying on social media.

The Trump campaign mirrored that defense in its own social media post, answering Harris: "You've never ONCE taken responsibility for the 13 heroes killed on your watch — while you bragged about being the last person in the room."

During his visit to Arlington Cemetery on Monday, Trump's campaign staffers disregarded federal laws prohibiting political activities on military cemetery grounds by pushing aside a cemetery worker, according to a U.S. Army spokesperson.

Trump visited the cemetery to mark the three-year anniversary of the bombing at Kabul Airport that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, which he has consistently attributed to President Joe Biden and Harris.

During his meeting with the families of the victims, Trump's campaign staff captured photos and videos, some of which were later shared on his social media pages.

The incident involving the campaign and the Arlington Cemetery staff member was confirmed by the cemetery, as first reported by NPR.

The Army National Military Cemetery prohibits political campaign or election-related activities, including photographers, content creators, and any other persons attending for the purpose of supporting a partisan political candidate's campaign.

On Friday, Trump stated that he only took photos at the site because the victims' families requested it.

He explained that he stood with various individuals at different graves and took photographs, even though he didn't want to, but only if they wanted him to do so.

The Harris campaign has seized on the controversy, criticizing Trump for disrespecting U.S. troops and highlighting instances where the former president has faced criticism for allegedly making derogatory remarks about veterans, which he has denied.

"Donald Trump's actions are nothing new, according to Harris. She believes that someone who cannot fulfill this basic duty should never again hold the title of President of the United States."
