A New York judge indefinitely delayed President-elect Donald Trump's sentencing in his criminal hush money case on Friday.
In a court order, Juan Merchan was judged and found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, while Trump's attorneys were granted permission to submit motions to dismiss the case.
The sentencing scheduled for next Tuesday has been temporarily suspended by the ruling.
The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has recommended postponing the sentencing date to allow defense lawyers to argue for the case's dismissal.
But the DA's office also said they would oppose that dismissal bid.
The attorneys representing Trump, including Todd Blanche who was recently appointed as the No. 2 official at the Department of Justice, argued on Tuesday that the case should be dismissed "immediately."
As a sitting president is immune from any criminal process, so too is President Trump as President-elect, according to Blanche and lawyer Emil Bove in a letter to Merchan.
CNBC did not receive an immediate response from Blanche regarding the judge's recent order.
The hush money case revolved around Michael Cohen, Trump's lawyer at the time, attempting to prevent Stormy Daniels from disclosing her alleged affair with Trump prior to the 2016 election.
