  • The House Ethics Committee failed to reach a consensus on whether to make public its findings regarding accusations against ex-Republican congressman Matt Gaetz.

On Wednesday, the House Ethics Committee was unable to reach a consensus on whether to make public its findings regarding sexual misconduct and other misdeeds committed by ex-Republican congressman Matt Gaetz.

The release of the report on Gaetz, Trump's pick for U.S. attorney general, has been postponed due to the outcome of the vote.

After the closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill, Ethics Chair Michael Guest, R-Miss., stated to reporters that no agreement has been reached to release the report.

Rep. Susan Wild of Pennsylvania disagreed with the description of the panel's ranking Democrat.

She stated that the chairman implied there was committee agreement, which was not the case.

The vote in the 10-member committee, which is evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats, was split along party lines.

"There was no consensus on this issue," Wild said.

The panel agreed to reconvene on Dec. 5 to further discuss this matter.

Wild paused before responding to Guest's remark that the panel's report is unfinished, stating that they were in a position to vote on the matter.

An investigation into Gaetz's conduct focused on allegations of sexual misconduct, drug use, accepting gifts, favoring personal contacts, and obstructing government investigations.

Gaetz has denied all wrongdoing.
