Swift announced on Instagram, where she has over 280 million followers, that she is voting for Kamala Harris because she believes the cause needs a champion.

Swift wrote under a photo of her holding a cat, "I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos, as she is a steady-handed, gifted leader."

According to NBC News, two Harris campaign officials revealed that Swift's endorsement came as a surprise to the campaign.
