Ohio state police will conduct daily sweeps of schools in Springfield due to at least 33 bomb threats that resulted in evacuations and temporary building closures, as announced by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday.

The Republican governor stated at a press conference that it is important to ensure the safety of the school in Springfield as the school week continues.

DeWine stated that each bomb threat has been a hoax with "no validity whatsoever."

The national immigration debate has been dominated by Springfield, with Donald Trump and JD Vance making unfounded accusations about Haitian immigrants stealing and consuming pets.

Trump boosted the unfounded rumors further in the first presidential debate against Kamala Harris, after Vance initially promoted them in a Sept. 9 post on social media platform X.

Officials in Springfield, including Mayor Rob Rue and the police, have rejected allegations that Haitian immigrants in the city are stealing or consuming pets, stating that there is no evidence to support these claims.

Local health officials have refuted Vance's claim that the influx of Haitian immigrants in the city has resulted in an increase in communicable diseases.

"On Sunday, DeWine stated on ABC's "This Week" that the statement is false and there is no evidence to support it."

Since false bomb threats have been made, schools and government buildings in Springfield, including City Hall, have been evacuated and closed. Additionally, local colleges and a hospital have also been targeted.

Starting from Tuesday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol field force will conduct sweeps of Springfield school buildings in the morning and evening, with officers staying on campuses during school hours.

DeWine on Monday indicated the threats were being made by non-American actors.

"Unfortunately, there are individuals from a specific country taking actions overseas that are negatively impacting the United States. These actions are seen as an opportunity for the bad guys to win, and we cannot allow that to happen."
