  • The alleged efforts to influence U.S. opinion include the use of RT, the English-language media network backed by Russia.
  • The Treasury Department and the Department of Justice are expected to take actions and impose sanctions in response to the Biden administration.

On Wednesday, the Biden administration will reveal measures aimed at countering Russian-backed attempts to sway American public opinion prior to the 2024 election, according to two senior US officials.

Officials claimed that the alleged efforts to sway U.S. opinion involved the use of RT, the English-language media network backed by Russia.

The Treasury Department and the Department of Justice are expected to impose sanctions and take legal action against the Biden administration's response to those efforts.

Attorney General Merrick Garland plans to speak publicly about actions later Wednesday.

In July, intelligence officials from the United States disclosed to NBC News that Russia was attempting to sabotage President Joe Biden's bid for re-election in the upcoming autumn election.

Weeks later, Biden withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed Vice President Harris as his successor on the Democratic ticket.

In November, Harris will confront Trump, the ex-president and GOP candidate.
