On Tuesday, Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, unveiled his Conservative Party's official election manifesto, which included assistance for first-time homebuyers and tax reductions.
As the Conservatives face a potential defeat to Labour in the July 4 General Election, Sunak has been criticized multiple times during the campaign.
Sunak has apologized for leaving D-Day commemorations early last week and has also been accused of misleading the British electorate with a claim that Labour would raise taxes by £2,000 ($2,547) per working household.
On Tuesday, he announced plans to reduce National Insurance by 2 pence for workers and reaffirmed his commitment to reintroducing national service, requiring 18-year-olds to undertake a 12-month community program or a year of military training.
The Conservatives would halve migration and reduce it every year, while also introducing a "Help to Buy" program for first-time property buyers in the midst of the U.K.'s housing crisis.
Both Sunak and Labour leader Keir Starmer are emphasizing economic growth, the cost of living, and taxes in their campaign messaging. If Labour wins, it will mark its first parliamentary majority in 14 years. Polls have been indicating a Labour victory in a General Election for some time now, following the Conservatives' ratings decline after a series of scandals under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's leadership.
