Biden: If Russia chooses war, it will pay a steep price

On Friday, President Biden stated that the US believes Putin will launch an attack on Ukraine soon.

According to Biden, there are indications that the Russian military is preparing to launch an attack on Ukraine in the near future, with a focus on targeting the capital city of Kyiv, which is home to over 2.8 million unsuspecting citizens.

An astonishing disclosure emerges as a significant amount of Russian troops move towards Ukraine's north and east.

The heightened military presence mirrors Russia's strategy prior to its 2014 annexation of Crimea, a Black Sea peninsula, which resulted in global outrage and economic sanctions against Moscow.

Biden administration has previously declined to predict Putin's playbook even as Russia has deployed nearly half of its military to Ukraine's borders. When asked, Biden said that there was still time for Putin to choose a path of diplomacy.

In his second speech this week, Biden reaffirmed the U.S.'s dedication to safeguarding NATO allies in the event of a full-scale conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Biden stated that the US and its allies are ready to safeguard every inch of NATO territory against any threat to our collective security, invoking Article 5 of the alliance.

The alliance, comprising 30 members, is founded on the principle of collective defense, as outlined in Article 5, which stipulates that an attack on any NATO country is considered an attack on all allies.

The Kremlin has stated that the over 150,000 Russian soldiers equipped with advanced military technology stationed near Ukraine's borders are not planning an invasion.

Biden issued new warnings that Washington's allies were prepared to impose strong sanctions to weaken Russia's economic competitiveness. Earlier in the week, Biden stated that the NordStream 2 gas pipeline with Germany would also be halted.

Biden stated that although he would not guarantee sending U.S. troops to Ukraine, he would support troop deployments to NATO member countries. On Friday, Biden ordered additional U.S. troops and military equipment to Hungary, a NATO ally adjacent to Ukraine.

Biden: Putin is trying to convince the world he can change the dynamics in Europe

On Thursday, Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State, cautioned that the recent Russian aggression against Ukraine would not only threaten European security but also the global peace order.

During a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference, America's top diplomat stated that the lives and wellbeing of Ukrainians are at stake, but what's at stake are also larger principles that form the basis of the entire international order.

Russia is currently challenging principles such as not changing the borders of another country through force, not dictating to another country its choices, decisions, and policies, including with whom they associate, and not exerting a sphere of influence to subjugate neighbors to one's will, as stated by Blinken.

At the United Nations, Blinken gave a grim assessment of what Russian forces could do to Ukraine if the Kremlin launched an attack before traveling to Munich.

According to Blinken, the U.N. Security Council, we cannot predict the exact outcome, but here's what the world can expect to happen. In fact, it's already happening.

Russian missiles and bombs will fall on Ukraine, jamming communications and shutting down key institutions through cyberattacks. Following that, Russian tanks and soldiers will advance on previously identified and mapped-out targets.

Lloyd Austin, Biden's Secretary of Defense, stated at the NATO headquarters that the U.S. and its allies prefer a diplomatic resolution to the crisis on Ukraine's borders.

As we have consistently stated, we would welcome any dialogue that Mr. Putin wants to engage in, as he has mentioned, according to Austin, who concluded a two-day meeting with NATO allies.

"It will be evident to all that we initiated a war with diplomatic methods, and Mr. Putin will be held accountable for the resulting suffering and sacrifice. I urge Putin to remove his troops from Ukraine's borders," he stated.

Gen. Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, stated to reporters at the Pentagon that Russia's stance near Ukraine's border was unlike anything he had witnessed in his 40-year military career.

The Russians have deployed various military capabilities, including air, naval, special, cyber, electronic warfare, command and control, logistics, and other forces, along Ukraine's border, as stated by him.

Milley stated on Jan. 28 that if the combined forces of ground maneuver, artillery, ballistic missiles, and air forces were unleashed on Ukraine, it would be a significant event, resulting in a substantial number of casualties.

“It would be horrific,” he added.
