On Wednesday, President Biden will journey to Israel to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

During a press conference at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that President Biden will make a visit to Israel.

Blinken reiterated that President Biden has consistently stated since the Hamas attack in 2008 that Israel has the right and obligation to protect its people from Hamas and other terrorists and to prevent future attacks, following an eight-hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Biden will also work to establish a plan for the safe passage of critical humanitarian aid to Gaza, as Blinken stated.

Since the war began, no water, food, medical supplies, or fuel have been delivered to Gaza by any United Nations agency.

Juliette Touma, Director of Communications for the United Nations Relief Works Agency, stated on a call with reporters that the situation has become unbearable. "The messages we're receiving are pleas for us to get out of this nightmare," Touma emphasized.

On Monday evening, John Kirby, the National Security Council spokesman, informed reporters that Biden's travel to Israel was meticulously assessed and that the security climate is undeniably tense.

During his meeting with Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, Blinken was forced to take refuge in a bunker twice due to air raid sirens. Over the weekend, a U.S. congressional delegation also sought shelter in place.

On Wednesday, Biden will visit Amman, Jordan and meet with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

In Jordan, Kirby stated that Biden would address regional security, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and the humanitarian requirements of the population in Gaza.

Kirby stated that it is imperative for humanitarian aid to commence at the earliest.
