Next week, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, will meet with Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister.

Trump, in his first public statement after the assassination attempt, praised Modi as "fantastic" while also accusing India of being a "very big abuser" as he criticized several countries for their trade policies with the U.S.

"When India, a big abuser, comes to meet me next week, and Modi, who is fantastic, happens to be there, I will say that these leaders are great. They are at the top of their game, but India is particularly tough."

The Indian Embassy in Washington did not respond to a CNBC request for comment on the meeting between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, will visit the U.S. from Sept. 21 to 23 and attend the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit in Wilmington, Delaware hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden. Additionally, he is scheduled to speak before the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Since winning a historic third term in office in June, this will be Modi's first visit to the U.S.

In June 2023, during Modi's visit to Washington, the U.S. and India signed multiple technology and defense agreements, marking a new chapter in their bilateral relations.

The U.S. Department of State has announced a partnership with the India Semiconductor Mission and India's electronics and IT government body to enhance the global semiconductor value chain.

The semiconductor industry in India has the potential to benefit from the collaboration between the United States and India in ensuring the global supply chain keeps pace with the digital transformation currently underway.
