On Tuesday morning, near the Washington, D.C., residence of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, an "agent involved shooting" occurred, according to senior law enforcement officials, as reported by NBC News.

According to NBC, law enforcement sources stated that Yellen, who is guarded by U.S. Secret Service agents, was not in danger during the incident.

No injuries were reported during the incident that happened at approximately 1 a.m. ET., according to sources.

The Secret Service did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington and Washington Metropolitan Police will investigate the incident.
