Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, was hospitalized after sustaining injuries while on a trip with a congressional delegation in Luxembourg, her office announced on Friday.
According to a press release from her spokesman Ian Krager, Pelosi, 84, sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.
The current U.S. representative from California, who is a former Democratic speaker emerita, is receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals, according to Krager.
He lamented that he couldn't attend the rest of the CODEL engagements, despite continuing to work.
The spokesman declined to provide further information about the incident when asked by CNBC.
The delegation, consisting of members from both parties, was scheduled to journey to Belgium and Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a conflict that occurred in the Ardennes region during World War II when German and Allied forces engaged in combat.
On Friday and Saturday, U.S. lawmakers were set to participate in commemorations of the anniversary, alongside veterans, their families, active-duty servicemembers, government and military officials, and foreign dignitaries, as per Pelosi's office's statement prior to the trip.
In her statement on Friday, Pelosi expressed gratitude to veterans, the people of Luxembourg, and those who served in Bastogne for their roles in World War II and their contributions to bringing peace to Europe.
The distinguished delegation, including Speaker Emerita Pelosi's uncle, Johnny, who fought in World War II, was honored to travel with her. The spokesman stated that she looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon.
