Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have raised over $34 million in donations for humanitarian aid to Ukraine and temporary housing for Ukrainian refugees through their GoFundMe page.
In 1983, Kunis was born in Ukraine and later moved to the United States at the age of 8. On her page, she writes, "Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need."
Kutcher and Kunis, a married couple, will donate the funds they raised to the philanthropic arms of two popular Silicon Valley start-ups: Flexport, a logistics company, and Airbnb, a housing rental platform.
Relief supplies are being shipped to refugee sites in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Moldova through Flexport.org, while Airbnb.org is offering free, short-term housing to refugees escaping Ukraine.
The campaign has received more than $65 million in donations since Kutcher and Kunis started it on March 3 with a personal donation of $3 million.
Some of the world's wealthiest individuals, including billionaire Larry Ellison and private equity firms DST Global and Milner's family foundation, have donated millions to the list of top contributors.
Another $2.5 million donation was made by the family of renowned Silicon Valley angel investor Ron Conway. Fashion model Karlie Kloss and her husband, Josh Kushner, donated $250,000 through their foundation. Kushner is a venture capital investor and the brother of former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Kutcher expressed gratitude for the support in an Instagram post on March 17, stating that the collective effort would provide a softer landing for those facing an uncertain future.
