Lukashenko and Putin falsely accuse British agents of committing the atrocities in Bucha.
- On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his closest ally, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, presented a new theory regarding the perpetrators of the atrocities committed in Bucha, Ukraine during the time it was under Russian occupation.
- Lukashenko made an unsupported claim that British secret agents carried out a "psychological special operation" in Kyiv's affluent neighborhood.
- Putin stated that the Russian security services had obtained "intercepts" revealing "the methods, individuals involved, and the circumstances that led to the provocation and fabrication of the situation in that settlement."
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his closest ally, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, presented a new theory regarding the perpetrators of the atrocities committed against hundreds of civilians in Bucha, Ukraine during the Russian occupation.
The Russian soldiers were not responsible for the monthlong rampage of looting and killing, as witnesses, satellite imagery, and forensic evidence suggest.
Lukashenko accused British operatives of conducting a "psychological special operation" in Kyiv without providing any evidence, the real culprits, he claimed.
Lukashenko and Putin held a news conference at a space launch facility in Vostochny, Russia, where Putin made his first public appearance outside of Moscow since the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Lukashenko stated that he and Putin had a thorough discussion about the "psychological special operation" in Bucha, which was allegedly carried out by the British.
The Belarusian leader informed reporters that the Russian Federal Security Bureau would supply evidence to support his unbelievable assertion.
Lukashenko stated that if one requires addresses, passports, license numbers, and brands, along with the dates they arrived in Bucha and the methods used, the FSB can provide these materials.
Putin stated that Lukashenko handed him documents regarding the killings in Bucha, which were then submitted to the FSB.
The FSB intercepted relevant information about who came to the settlement and created conditions for the provocation and fake event, he told reporters.
The UK government officials stated that they will not let Russia's attacks on innocent civilians during their illegal invasion of Ukraine be concealed through deceitful propaganda. They will investigate these crimes as war crimes and make sure the truth about Russia's actions is exposed.
Putin has previously claimed that the deaths in Bucha were fabricated, and the Kremlin maintains that the hundreds of corpses found there were staged.
Belarus and Russian security services collaborated for the first time to promote the claim that Great Britain was the secret power behind the conspiracy on Tuesday.
Russian forces seized numerous towns, including Bucha, in northern Ukraine during their initial attempt to seize the capital, Kyiv. However, when it became clear that they would not be able to capture the city, they withdrew, leaving a path of devastation in their wake.
Since the Russians withdrew from Bucha, over 400 civilians have been discovered dead, with signs of execution, rape, and torture. Immediately following this revelation, an international coalition was formed to investigate potential war crimes, with the assistance of more than a dozen nations.
In Vostochny, Putin employed both whataboutism and misinformation to divert attention from the Russian soldiers' wrongdoings.
He argued that NATO had also resulted in civilian casualties in combat, implying that Western indignation over Russian civilian deaths in Bucha was disingenuous.
He compared Bucha to cities in Syria where Russian-backed President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons during a civil war in 2013 and later accused rebels of gassing their own supporters to frame Assad.
The international community has become more determined as evidence of possible war crimes by Russian troops in Syria continues to surface.
After Putin and Lukashenko's meeting and their claims about British agents, President Biden stated that the evidence appeared to him as something more severe than isolated war crimes - it looked like genocide.
Late Tuesday evening, Biden stated that he labeled it as genocide because it has become increasingly evident that Putin's actions are aimed at eradicating the notion of being Ukrainian.
"The evidence is accumulating and appearing differently than last week. Further evidence is emerging about the atrocities committed by the Russians in Ukraine," he stated.
