  • As she was nominated for president, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to bring unity and "common sense" to the White House.
  • As the nominee, Harris proposed a "new way forward," which she secured after President Biden withdrew from the race against former President Trump.
  • The Democratic National Convention concluded with a speech, following a four-day procession of politicians and celebrities including Oprah Winfrey and Bill Clinton.

If elected in November, Vice President Kamala Harris promises to unite the country and bring a practical perspective to the presidency.

In her keynote address tonight, Harris will acknowledge the presence of individuals with diverse political beliefs, as per earlier excerpts released before the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

She will say, "I promise to be a president for all Americans."

"As president, I will unite us around our highest aspirations, lead with common sense and practicality, listen to the people, and always fight for them."

My presidency will prioritize building the middle class as a defining goal.

"The middle class is where I come from," she will say, and it's personal for her.

In late July, President Joe Biden made history by withdrawing his reelection bid and endorsing Kamala Harris as his successor.

Harris' speech aims to separate her from the 81-year-old incumbent, who has faced low approval ratings, and present a "new direction."

"Through this election, our country has a rare chance to leave behind the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive struggles of the past, as one nation."

The parade featured a diverse group of individuals, including politicians, celebrities, activists, entertainers, and everyday Americans, such as Oprah Winfrey, Bill Clinton, and the Central Park 5.

The convention aimed to appeal to moderate voters and counteract Donald Trump's labeling of Harris as a far-left "Marxist."

Democrats have been emphasizing that both Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are "odd" and do not reflect the majority of the country.

""Donald Trump is an unserious man, but the consequences of putting him back in the White House are extremely serious," Harris will say in Thursday's speech."

If Trump is rewarded with a second term, he will be empowered, as a recent Supreme Court ruling granted former presidents "presumptive immunity" from criminal prosecution for their official acts.

This is a developing story, please check back for updates.
