  • Several former state campaign committee members from Nikki Haley's unsuccessful presidential campaign have endorsed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump, the Republican nominee.
  • Haley's Michigan, Iowa, and Vermont campaign teams have former members.
  • The former governor and UN ambassador, who was Trump's last significant opponent in the 2024 Republican primary, ultimately endorsed him.

Several former state campaign committee members who were part of Nikki Haley's unsuccessful presidential campaign have now endorsed Kamala Harris, publicly distancing themselves from Haley, who is supporting Donald Trump.

According to Tom Evslin, who co-chaired Haley's Vermont state leadership team, the election this year may be influenced by independent voters and former Haley supporters, as he stated in an op-ed for the Vermont Daily Chronicle on Wednesday.

Evslin, who previously voted against Clinton and Trump, stated that he would support Harris if she consistently advocated for a strong foreign policy.

On the same day, two ex-members of Haley's Michigan state leadership team called on Republicans to back the Democratic ticket of Harris and Minnesota Gov. Walz.

"As Republicans, we value character and integrity," wrote business consultant Jimmy Greene and communications expert Bill Nowling in a joint op-ed for the Michigan Chronicle. "Consequently, we backed Ambassador Nikki Haley for president and were members of her Michigan Leadership Team."

Nowling is a co-chair of the group Republicans for Harris, along with Republican former Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Denver Riggleman of Virginia.

"Greene and Nowling wrote, "We initially supported her positive vision for the Republican Party, Michigan, and our nation. However, we now plan to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and urge other reasonable Republicans to do the same.""

Five days after Haley's former Iowa state co-chair Dawn Roberts announced her support for Harris, the latest endorsements were received.

In a guest column for the Des Moines Register, Roberts stated that although she is a lifelong Republican, she was dismayed by both parties when Trump and President Joe Biden emerged as the top candidates.

After Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris, Roberts wrote that he was impressed with her handling of the situation, particularly when she stated that she wanted to "earn everyone's support." He noted that she showed a willingness to listen to a wider range of views in order to solve problems.

"So I am supporting Kamala Harris for president," she wrote.

Haley's campaign spokeswoman did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on her former campaigners endorsing Harris.

As the last high-profile Republican presidential primary candidate, Haley, who was previously governor of South Carolina and served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, continued campaigning against Trump.

In the final stretch of her campaign, Haley, who had avoided attacking Trump directly, became critical of him.

Haley did not immediately endorse Trump after ending her campaign in March, unlike other GOP challengers. In her concession speech, she stated that Trump needed to "earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him."

Despite saying in May that she would be voting for Trump, Haley later stated her support for Biden.

She endorsed Trump more explicitly at the Republican National Convention and later advocated for him in subsequent media appearances, despite clarifying that his campaign had not asked her to do so.

In September, Haley sent a cease-and-desist letter to the political action committee Haley Voters for Harris, according to Fox News.

In New Hampshire, where Haley's strongest battleground was located, the largest party affiliation among independents was viewed as more moderate and independent than Trump's base.

In his op-ed Wednesday, Evslin stated that many people backed Haley due to her expertise in foreign policy.

He implored Harris to adopt a more stringent stance on Iran by stating that the country's "proxy warfare globally will no longer be tolerated."

Evslin stated that a strong specific foreign policy statement would help win many people's vote for Harris.
