On Thursday morning, former President Jimmy Carter will be honored with a state funeral, and President Joe Biden will give a eulogy.
Before leaving the White House on Jan. 20, Biden will deliver his final public speech at the Washington National Cathedral.
Biden is honoring Carter's legacy while preparing to transfer power to President-elect Trump, and is simultaneously leading the federal response to devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
Biden received a briefing on the latest effects of the wildfires before the funeral and intends to meet with top administration officials on Thursday afternoon for a response to the disaster.
All four living U.S. presidents will be present when Biden speaks.
In the same row as former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Trump sat next to former President Barack Obama in front of the cathedral. In the next row back, former Vice Presidents Mike Pence and Al Gore sat together.
Before the service started, Vice President Kamala Harris, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, President-elect Joe Biden, and first lady Jill Biden sat together.
