George Clooney, a renowned actor and filmmaker in Hollywood, stated on Wednesday that it was high time for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. This declaration came after Biden's poor performance in the debate and a fundraiser that Clooney co-hosted for Biden in June.

In a New York Times op-ed, Clooney wrote that the Joe Biden he was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the "big F-ing deal" Joe Biden of 2010.

"He was not the 2020 version of Joe Biden, but rather the same man we saw at the debate."

The June event in Los Angeles, featuring former President Barack Obama, actress Julia Roberts, and comedian Jimmy Kimmel, was a star-studded fundraiser that raised over $30 million for Biden and his larger political operation, according to NBC News.

Nearly two weeks after the Los Angeles fundraiser, Biden's fumbling debate performance against former President Donald Trump occurred on June 27.

On Wednesday, two weeks after the disastrous debate, Clooney's op-ed was published, and the same day, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., refused to explicitly endorse Biden as the nominee.

"George Clooney wrote that the president's leadership would not lead to a win in November, and the party would not gain control of the House or Senate. This view is shared by every senator, congress member, and governor he has spoken to privately, regardless of their public statements."

A Biden campaign spokesman directed CNBC to the president's remarks stating that he will remain in the race.

Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill are struggling to persuade Biden to abandon his presidential campaign, with Clooney urging them to ask the president to step down.

Clooney wrote that top Democrats, including Schumer, Jeffries, and Pelosi, as well as candidates at risk of losing in November, should request the president to voluntarily resign.

Clooney stated that the president's post-debate performances were not satisfactory in addressing concerns, including his recent ABC interview.

Clooney wrote that the George Stephanopoulos interview merely confirmed what had been observed the previous week.

Clooney wrote that as Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president, whom we respect, walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question.

Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024.

The latest wealthy Democratic party contributor to urge Biden to resign is Clooney.

Some of the party's donors, including Abigail Disney, Stewart Bainum Jr., and Reed Hastings, have publicly stated that the president should step down and let another candidate take over.

Gideon Stein, a philanthropist and investor, and Disney have both stated to CNBC that they will cease assisting Democrats in fundraising unless Biden declares he will not seek reelection.
