On Thursday, at the New York Stock Exchange, President-elect Donald Trump rang the opening bell and pledged an economic surge to an enthusiastic gathering of traders and business executives.

The group of onlookers on the floor included David Solomon of Goldman Sachs, Jane Fraser of Citigroup, Hans Vestberg of Verizon, Brian Cornell of Target, and Bill Ackman of Pershing Square.

At one point, the room erupted into a chant of "U-S-A."
