In his highly anticipated solo press conference in Washington, President Joe Biden on Thursday announced the latest inflation report.
"This morning, we received a positive economic report indicating that inflation has decreased," he stated. "Inflation rates have fallen overall, with core inflation reaching its lowest point in three years."
The monthly inflation rate in the US decreased for the first time in over four years in June, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, which reported a 0.1% drop from May.
"The president stated that car, appliance, and airfare prices are decreasing, and grocery prices have decreased since the beginning of the year. He added that they will continue to work to reduce corporate greed in order to lower prices even more."
Biden criticized Trump's proposed economic policy, which includes a 10% baseline tariff on all U.S. imports.
"Trump is advocating for a 10% tariff on all American purchases, including foreign food, vegetables, and other essentials, which economists predict would result in an additional $2,500 in annual expenses for the average American working family."
The president's performance at the first debate with Trump has put his 2024 presidential campaign in jeopardy, making the upcoming press conference a high-stakes event for him.
