As an Earnout Bonus, DJT Receives 36 Million Shares of Trump Media Valued at $1.8 Billion
  • On Friday, 36 million shares of Trump Media Technology Group were given to former President Donald Trump.
  • In March, Trump's media company agreed to an "earnout bonus" as part of a contractual agreement that included shares.
  • The newly public company has a total value of over $5.7 billion, with Trump holding 114,750,000 shares at Tuesday's closing price of $49,93.

On Friday, former President Donald Trump received 36 million more shares of stock, as disclosed in a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

Before going public in March, Trump Media Company agreed to an "earnout bonus" as part of a contractual agreement that included shares.

On Tuesday, the value of Trump's newly awarded shares was approximately $1.8 billion at the closing price of $49.93, but he is restricted from selling them until a six-month lockup period ends.

The newly public company's total value on paper is over $5.7 billion after the additional shares were added, bringing Trump's stake to 114,750,000.

The stock price of Trump Media has surged by 50% in the past week, after a period of decline following its Nasdaq listing on March 26.

Trump received the shares as a reward for maintaining the stock price above $17.50 for 20 consecutive trading days.

Initially, the contract included three benchmarks spanning 36 months, with each tranche worth 9 million shares. However, the stock price never posed a significant threat to missing any of them, resulting in all three tranches, totaling 36 million shares, being awarded at once.

Trump Media's representatives had declined to confirm or deny that Trump would receive the stock when contacted by CNBC last week, but Tuesday's filing confirmed it.

Trump was already the largest shareholder of the company that owns the Truth Social app, a social media platform created to accommodate Trump and his supporters following their ban from Twitter and Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
