  • The House China committee ranking member is organizing a fundraiser for House Democrats, with a goal of raising at least $2 million.
  • The invitation shows ticket donations range from $10,000 to $100,000.
  • Other power players in the Democratic party, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, are scheduled to attend.

During the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., is hosting a significant fundraiser for House Democrats, which is predicted to collect at least $2 million and feature prominent party members.

The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party's ranking member, Krishnamoorthi, revealed in an interview at Ralph's Coffee that the Tuesday event will be attended by influential lawmakers.

The fundraiser will be attended by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, dozens of donors, and House Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

The fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which supports House Democrats, has ticket prices ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. DCCC chair Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., is listed as a co-host on the invite.

Krishnamoorthi views the convention as an opportunity to increase the party's chances of regaining a majority in the election, with Vice President Harris receiving support from the party.

The House has been in chaos for the past two years due to Republican control, according to Krishnamoorthi.

He said, "They're like, 'this cannot be the way we operate such an important chamber of Congress.'"

The Republican Party's internal struggles were highlighted by the conflict over former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, D-Calif.

In 2023, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., led a rebellion by members of his own party that resulted in the removal of McCarthy as speaker.

If Harris were to become president, Democrats will likely need to control at least one of the two chambers of Congress to have any success passing their party's legislation, as there are over 20 House races marked as toss-ups by The Cook Political Report.

The struggle for influence among House members has resulted in a competition for financial resources between the Democratic and Republican factions.

According to Federal Election Commission records, the DCCC had over $200 million in funds and around $87 million remaining in July.

During the same time period, their rivals in the National Republican Congressional Committee had raised over $160 million and had just over $70 million on hand.

Both committees will file their July fundraising totals with the FEC on Friday.
