American airspace prohibits Russian aircraft.
On Tuesday, President Biden declared that the U.S. will prohibit Russian aircraft from traveling through American airspace.
In his first State of the Union address, Biden made an announcement that was preceded by similar moves from the European Union and Canada.
Biden announced that the US will join its allies in closing off American air space to all Russian flights, thereby isolating Russia and putting additional pressure on their economy.
The Kremlin's war in Ukraine has led to a coordinated approach between the U.S. and its allies, which includes prohibiting Russian-owned or registered planes from flying over the United States.
In a Tuesday statement, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg wrote that the United States is standing with its allies globally in reacting to Putin's unjustified aggression against the Ukrainian people.
The ban will take effect by the end of day Wednesday.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin countered the European ban by canceling flights from European airlines over Russian airspace.
