At the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, Amanda Gorman, the first U.S. national youth poet laureate, highlighted themes of democracy and unity in a new poem she debuted.

"United, we can strive to make our democracy more humane and beloved by people." Gorman, 26, spoke at the United Center arena in Chicago.

"It is our responsibility to prevent ourselves from collapsing. A group that cannot unite cannot endure."

Gorman's work is titled "This Sacred Scene."

In 2021, a Harvard graduate made a national debut when Jill Biden, the incoming First Lady, invited her to read at President Biden's inauguration.

That memorable appearance made Gorman the youngest inaugural poet in American history.

Millions of Americans were moved by Gorman's poem "The Hill We Climb," which emphasized unity following the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

Gorman's poetry books shot up to the top of Amazon's bestseller lists, catapulting him to literary fame overnight.
