Allegations claim that a man charged with threatening Biden stated he intended to visit the White House.
According to court documents released Friday, a man from Kansas is facing charges for allegedly threatening to harm President Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, Scott Ryan Merryman contacted the police department in Independence, Kansas and informed them that he was heading to Washington, D.C. to meet the president, as stated in a Secret Service agent's affidavit in support of a criminal complaint.
On Wednesday, agents interviewed Merryman in a Cracker Barrel restaurant parking lot in Hagerstown, Maryland. After a search, they discovered three rounds of ammunition and a spotting scope on him, but no weapons, the agent stated.
On Thursday, Merryman threatened Biden by calling the White House Switchboard and stating that he would cut off the head of the snake/anti-Christ when he arrived at the White House.
The White House operator informed the Secret Service about a call from Merryman, during which he allegedly stated that he planned to shoot "sleepy Joe" with three bullets, but without guns.
In the U.S. District Court of Maryland, Merryman has been accused of making threats against the President of the United States and engaging in interstate communication with the intent to cause harm.
The charges against Merryman were first reported by the Daily Beast.
The affidavit included screenshots of posts from Merryman's Facebook page, published between Tuesday and Thursday, that contained threatening language.
On Tuesday, Merryman announced that he was embarking on a journey to the nation's capital, which he claimed was guided by God. He urged his followers to keep an eye on his strategic moves in the days to come. However, on Wednesday, a post that appeared to have been deleted by Merryman stated that there would be a miracle at the White House, and he believed that Joe Biden was the Antichrist. He predicted that Biden would suffer a fatal head wound.
A senior law enforcement official confirmed Saturday that Merryman has been arrested.
It’s unclear whether Merryman had legal representation.
No comment from the U.S. Attorney for Maryland on Saturday.
