The Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, has been portrayed as the ideal candidate for business by her top allies in the private sector, who have launched a new campaign to draw distinctions between her and former President Donald Trump.
On Friday, Harris's Business Leaders launched a website showcasing online testimonials from both small business owners and successful entrepreneurs.
The Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, co-founder Reed Hastings, CEO Aaron Levine, former CEO Ken Chenault, and former CEO Ken Frazier all recorded short videos for Harris.
In his testimonial, Chenault states that Kamala Harris brings order and innovation, while Donald Trump brings chaos and fear and hopelessness. He emphasizes the need for someone who can bring hope in a tangible way, and believes that Kamala Harris is the best candidate for the job.
I believe Harris would excel in business more than Biden, as she possesses a higher level of interest.
This summer, a small, vocal group of Democratic donors, including Hastings, urged Biden to withdraw from the presidential race following his poor performance in the June 27 debate against Trump.
In September, an open letter endorsing Harris was signed by all executives involved in the project. However, some of them have now supported this endorsement with substantial financial contributions to the new initiative.
The Republican Accountability PAC, a progressive political action committee, is behind the Business Leaders for Harris project.
According to Federal Election Commission records, $6 million has been donated to the super PAC by Hoffman during this election cycle.
After Biden dropped out of the race in July and endorsed Harris, Hastings reportedly made a $7 million donation to the PAC.
Apart from contributing funds, Hoffman is also hosting a new Business Leaders for Harris podcast. The initial episode features Hoffman conversing with Cuban and subsequently with Hastings.
Hoffman states that he has spoken with numerous CEOs who believe that Harris is more advantageous for business but are hesitant to express their opinions openly due to their current positions.
"They're similar to saying, 'I have employees, shareholders, and customers.'"
Future podcast episodes will feature additional participants in the campaign.
