A man was arrested while attempting to enter the U.S. Capitol with a machete, coinciding with the lying in state of former President Jimmy Carter.

In addition to the machete, three knives were discovered in the bag by officers.

Authorities stated that the man was apprehended for several counts of possessing a hazardous weapon.

On Tuesday, Carter, who passed away on December 29 at the age of 100, was laid to rest in the Capitol Rotunda. His funeral will take place at Washington National Cathedral on Thursday.

Starting Tuesday evening, the public was granted access to the Capitol to pay tribute to the 39th president.
