Why Barbara Corcoran, the self-made millionaire, always chooses economy class when flying.
Despite owning properties across the country, Barbara Corcoran refuses to splurge on first-class plane tickets for travel between them.
The "Shark Tank" judge, who made her millions by selling The Corcoran Group for $66 million in 2001, stated in a recent interview that she prefers flying coach instead of paying for a premium plane ticket.
"According to Corcoran, a coach ticket costs approximately 25% of a first-class ticket. He stated this while appearing on The Jamie Kern Lima Show. He added that he receives free miles and can give them away, allowing his family to fly on his miles."
For Corcoran, prioritizing free trips for her family over being "comfortable in first class" for a brief period is more significant.
"I could do both, but I won't because I'll feel smug in coach knowing I have three plane tickets to take someone somewhere," she said. "It adds up, you know?"
Using her miles to give away helps her ensure that her multiple homes are always being utilized.
"I've never had an empty bed in any of my homes," she declared, "and it feels great."
Corcoran has previously spoken about her frugal approach to travel, stating in a 2018 interview with CNBC Make It that she couldn't justify the high cost of a first or business class ticket.
Corcoran stated that she doesn't spend money on food at the airport and instead brings her own pre-packed meal consisting of fresh fruit, cheese, and a baguette or croissant.
""Opening my gourmet meal in a cheap seat is much better than any business or first class experience," she said confidently."
