To ensure career success in 2025, follow these tips from an ex-Nvidia recruiter.
According to ZipRecruiter's recent survey, only 13% of U.S. jobseekers report that their job search is going well, while 43% say it's going poorly. Additionally, jobseeker confidence has reached its lowest point since early 2022.
"Stefanie Fackrell, an HR consultant who has worked in talent acquisition at companies like Nvidia and Google, believes that the 2024 job market has been incredibly challenging. In fact, she considers it to be the worst job market she has seen since she graduated from university in 2008."
Looking for work or seeking to advance your career in 2025? Here are Fackrell's top three tips for achieving success.
'You should always be trying to refine' skills
First, look for opportunities to upskill.
Fackrell suggests that problem-solving, project management, and communication are essential skills that should always be improved upon, regardless of one's career stage. There are numerous ways to develop these skills based on individual interests.
She suggests exploring courses on Coursera, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, YouTube, and industry organizations' websites for free programs offered by universities.
'Always, always, always network'
Fackrell advises always networking and seeking mentors.
To learn more about their careers, ask potential mentors or good connections in your work life if you can take them out to coffee.
To build a successful mentor-mentee relationship, Fackrell suggests scheduling check-ins once a month. If the relationship is more casual, once a quarter is sufficient. The key is to maintain the relationship started in August and see its potential in March.
Figure out 'what is translatable between' industries
If you've been job hunting for 12 months, it may be time to consider pivoting.
If you're a recruiter, consider how your current work experience could be applicable in other industries, such as project management. What skills do you possess that could be useful in a project manager role?
If you're interested in a different industry, consider updating your resume's narrative or taking a project management course or certification to enhance your skill set and make the transition.
You can seek advice from experts or hire a career coach to increase your chances of getting hired.
