For the second year in a row, a suburb outside Columbus, Ohio, has been the most sought-after real estate market in the U.S., according to a recent Realtor.com study.

In 2024, Realtor.com analyzed 29,000 ZIP codes across the country and ranked Gahanna, Ohio, as the "hottest" due to the high number of listings viewed and quick sales.

Gahanna, like other top-ranking markets, is a family-friendly, affluent suburb near a major U.S. city. Homes in Gahanna are spacious and relatively affordable, with a median cost of $345,000, which is lower than the national median of $439,950, according to Realtor.com.

Gahanna boasts a good quality of life due to its abundance of park space, low crime rates, and excellent schools.

Here's a look at the 10 hottest markets by ZIP code:

According to a recent Realtor.com report, homes in the 10 hottest markets were sold within 21 days, compared to the nationwide median of 50 days.

The Midwest and Northeast regions are home to the hottest real estate markets, with six of them having home prices below the national median.

Major cities like New York and Boston have commuter neighborhoods with homes priced above the U.S. median, despite being relatively affordable compared to areas closer to the city.

The study reveals that all ZIP codes in the list provide some level of affordability, either through the low cost of homes or the reasonable price per square foot compared to the surrounding metro area.

The study reports that the rankings indicate a decline in the housing market in the South, resulting from an increase in home inventory and reduced demand, in part.

The rankings of top ZIP codes are based on Realtor.com listing data from January 2024 to June 2024, with only one ZIP code per metropolitan area being included on the list.
