Strong leadership requires decisive action, says CVS Health CEO Karen Lynch.

Lynch stated on LinkedIn's "This is Working" podcast and video series that individuals at all levels of their careers often face challenges in making decisions and become stuck in an "analysis-paralysis" mindset.

""

She inquired, "What do you think? What do you think we should do? If you had to make a decision today, what would it be?" when her employees encountered a mental block and were unable to make a choice.

"The Socratic method often works," Lynch stated.

Mastering communication and public speaking is the ultimate guide.

Gendler advised on "The Happiness Lab" podcast last year that when uncertain, to imagine what Socrates would do, who constantly questioned everything with "Why?" By asking yourself the same question, you'll increase your chances of finding a satisfactory answer.

""Socratic questioning helps me understand the direction I need to go to take the next step, as I don't try to get all the way there all at once," she said."

In the early days of Amazon, Jeff Bezos was a proponent of Socratic thinking. He conducted in-depth interviews with job candidates and required his fellow interviewers to ask additional questions to determine the most qualified candidate for a role.

According to Wired in 1999, five years after Amazon's launch, Nicholas Lovejoy, Amazon's fifth employee, stated that his motto was to raise the bar for every new hire, in order to continually improve the overall talent pool.

Lovejoy stated that Jeff was extremely selective, and if Bezos had any doubts about a candidate, they were quickly rejected.
