To identify job opportunities that you may have overlooked or see beyond the surface in a job listing.

Ask, 'where am I? Where do I want to be?'

Escalera suggests that self-reflection is crucial before beginning a job search. The purpose is to determine your long-term career aspirations.

To gain entry into the industry, he intentionally sought a job at WebMD, hoping to use their online product as a story to showcase his skills to potential employers in the video game space. When an opportunity at Electronic Arts arose, he was able to demonstrate his qualifications and secure the position.

He refers to these as "mid-step roles," which are positions that lead you closer to your desired destination.

Conducting research on LinkedIn can help you discover jobs you may not have considered that could lead you in the right direction.

Escalera refers to it as "professional internet stalking." By searching for individuals with the desired job title on LinkedIn, one can analyze their profile to determine their career trajectory.
