RuPaul may have never tried drag if he had not received advice while in high school.

During a TED "On the Spot" Q&A session, the famous drag queen and TV host acknowledged that his 10th grade teacher had given him the most valuable advice he had ever received.

"RuPaul advised the crowd not to take life too seriously, emphasizing the word "too." He used some vulgar language in his statement, which can be filled in where he inserted it."

Despite failing his first attempt to pass the 10th grade and eventually dropping out of high school in his junior year, RuPaul's teacher's advice remained with him.

"RuPaul stated that the most valuable lesson he learned in school was that one, and its worth increased over time as the years passed."

He stated that while stage actors often take their roles seriously and believe they are the characters they portray, this level of commitment isn't always necessary.

""The show will end, and we'll move on to another one, but it will be amazing," he said."

In a 2016 interview with CNBC, the entertainer revealed that he "accidentally discovered" drag in 1982 while performing in a rock band. Dressing up allowed him to express his creativity and accept the guidance he received in high school.

"My tribe, the people I discovered years ago, have found refuge in the unconventional, the eccentric, and the offbeat," he stated. "This is how we maintain our amusement and involvement in a world that can be harsh and unforgiving."
