Pharmacies and retailers are now providing free N95 masks—here's a list of locations.
President Biden declared that Americans could obtain N95 masks for free from retailers and health centers starting Jan. 23, but most retailers were still awaiting the arrival of these masks at the time.
Since then, N95 masks have been distributed to pharmacies and retailers and are now available to consumers.
Where to find N95 masks at no charge
You must retrieve the masks either in-store or at a community health center participating program. Find one near you here.
You may want to start with pharmacies and other retailers instead of health centers for N95 masks, as not all health centers are distributing them and some are prioritizing underserved communities.
Not all pharmacies that are part of the federal pharmacy vaccine program will distribute masks, but major chains are handing out N95s.
To confirm if masks are in stock at your local retailer, it's recommended to call first, as they are currently in high demand.
The CDC recommends high-filtration masks over cloth-based masks, with N95s offering the highest level of protection. Cloth masks offer the least amount of protection, according to the CDC.
