Although return-to-office mandates are widespread, remote work is on the rise and is transforming cities globally.

Nomad List, a remote worker database, analyzed nearly 300,000 check-ins over the past two years to rank the fastest-growing remote work hubs.

No European cities were included on the list of hotspots for digital nomads to work abroad, despite Valencia, Spain and Sardinia, Italy being popular options.

While most of the fastest-growing remote work hubs are in Asia, Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, ranked sixth.

Tokyo took the top spot as the fastest-growing destination for digital nomads.

Remote workers in Japan's capital increased by 369% in one year, while the city experienced a 67% increase in digital nomads from 2018 to 2022, according to Nomad List.
