Nearly $5,000 for a Yankees home game during the World Series: ticket prices are the second-highest ever.
The 2024 World Series tickets between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, two renowned teams with rich histories and impressive rosters, are priced at a premium due to their popularity in major U.S. markets.
Since 2010, TicketIQ has been tracking data on the average price for a World Series ticket in the secondary market. According to their recent data, the average price is $3,887, which is the second-most expensive on record.
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the Yankees are both contenders for the Most Valuable Player award in baseball, with Ohtani having had a standout season and Judge leading the league in home runs.
The teams, which have two of the three highest payrolls in the league, are facing off in the World Series for the first time since 1981, marking their 12th championship series meeting.
The average prices for home games in New York and Los Angeles are $4,875 and $3,146, respectively, which are the second- and third-highest prices since 2010. The cheapest ticket for the series on TicketIQ is $1,156 for Game 2 in Los Angeles.
In 2016, the highest average World Series ticket price in the secondary market was $6,641 for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Cubs, a storied but historically beleaguered franchise, were seeking their first World Series title in over 100 years. They clinched this title in a dramatic seventh game that went into extra innings.
"According to a TicketIQ spokesperson, the Cubs in 2016 were the only team to have games priced above $5,000, with the Yankees and everyone else on the secondary market following suit."
The first two games of the World Series will be held at Dodger Stadium, starting on Friday at 8:08 p.m. ET, followed by three games at Yankee Stadium, beginning on Monday. If required, the remaining two games of the seven-game series will be played in Los Angeles.
The demand for tickets to the 2024 World Series games where a team might clinch the title at home could increase, potentially leading to higher prices.
