In India, there is a high demand for talent in these 5 industries, as per Indeed.
Despite being one of the world's fastest growing economies, India faces challenges in finding jobs due to a recent 8% increase in unemployment.
Recent data from Indeed shows that both jobseekers and employers are facing challenges in finding work and hiring in certain industries.
In 2023, the most frequently used search terms by recruiters on a global hiring and matching platform were sales, accounting, and nursing, indicating a shortage of talent in these fields.
According to a blog post by Indeed, proactively searching for a resume is a better strategy than simply posting a job advertisement online, as it suggests that other more passive strategies haven't been as successful.
According to Callam Pickering, APAC senior economist at Indeed, recruiters and employers are feeling a sense of urgency when it comes to filling jobs that are particularly difficult to staff.
Top search terms by Indian employers
In 2023, research by Indeed found that "Sales" was the most frequently searched term by employers in India, accounting for 10% of all resume searches on the platform.
In 2023, according to Indeed's data, the top search term among employers in Singapore was comprised of 8% of all resume searches.
Sales can be a highly stressful sector with high staff turnover and burnout, which makes it ideal for shortages and challenging recruitment, according to Pickering.
In 2023, the most common search terms by employers in India, according to Indeed, are as follows: the percentage indicates the share of total searches by recruiters in the country.
- Sales 10%
- Accounting 2%
- Nurse 1%
- Telecaller 0.94%
- Mechanic 0.9%
Indeed India's head of sales, Sashi Kumar, stated that sales and accounting are essential across industries and businesses, resulting in a high demand for professionals in these fields. He also noted that there has been an increase in job postings in these industries since 2020.
In 2023, "nurse" was the third most frequently searched job title on Indeed by Indian employers.
"Indian nursing professionals are increasingly seeking job opportunities in countries such as Australia, Canada, the UK, and the U.S.," according to Kumar.
Though "telecaller" and "mechanic" were among the top 5 search terms in India, they each accounted for less than 1% of the searches.
"As India's services industry grows, there is a corresponding increase in demand for telecallers, according to Kumar. Telecalling is a cost-effective way to reach customers, especially in a market like India, making it an attractive option for businesses."
The push for electric vehicles in India is driving demand for mechanics and promoting indigenization, according to Kumar.
The rise in demand for skilled technicians in manufacturing and production facilities due to initiatives like 'Make in India' could eventually lead to a greater need for skilled mechanics in the nation, said Kumar.
The top 10 popular search terms among recruiters in India were "business development executive," "registered nurse," "electrician," "graphic designer," and "PHP developer," who specializes in creating websites, programs, or applications using the PHP programming language.
