In 2024, the top 10 U.S. companies to work for, as ranked by LinkedIn, include Amazon at No. 2.

According to new research from LinkedIn, the top companies to work for are big names in tech, health care, and financial services.

The networking platform unveiled its annual Top Companies list, featuring the 50 top U.S. locations for career advancement.

JP Morgan Chase & Co. was ranked first, with Verizon, Amazon, and Wells Fargo among the top 10.

LinkedIn evaluated organizations based on various factors, including gender diversity, employee upskilling opportunities, and the frequency and speed of promotions to determine their rankings.

The report from LinkedIn included two lists: one for midsize companies with at least 250 employees and another for large companies with 5,000 employees or more.

According to LinkedIn, here are the top 10 large U.S. companies to work for in 2024.

  1. JP Morgan Chase & Co.
  2. Amazon
  3. Wells Fargo
  4. Deloitte
  5. PwC
  6. UnitedHealth Group
  7. AT&T
  8. Verizon
  9. Moderna
  10. Alphabet Inc.

The list of top 50 companies to work for on LinkedIn took into account factors such as attrition and layoffs, specifically companies that experienced a 10% or greater workforce reduction between January 2023 and April 2024 were not eligible for the list.

Citi, which was ranked 14th on LinkedIn's list last year, was not eligible for this year's list due to its decision to eliminate approximately 10% of its workforce in January 2024.

In 2023, companies such as AT&T, JP Morgan Chase & Co., and UnitedHealth Group were among the top-ranked companies on LinkedIn. However, nearly half (44%) of the companies on the list were newcomers, including Moderna and Visa (#36).

LinkedIn's research shows that the most competitive companies are attracting and retaining talent by offering hybrid work arrangements, higher salaries, or investing in employees' career development.

American Express (#49) offers a flexible work program that enables many employees to work up to four calendar weeks per year from any location without visiting the office, while Amazon (#2) provides free skills training to its hourly employees.

LinkedIn highlighted in its report that various tech, finance, consulting, and healthcare companies are employing AI to aid their employees in career advancement.

Procter & Gamble (#22) provides its employees with "Competing in the Age of AI" classes from Harvard Business School, while AT&T (#7) has developed an AI chatbot to assist employees with various tasks such as coding and writing meeting summaries.

Using the list of companies as a "scorecard" can aid your job search, advises Andrew Seaman, senior managing editor for jobs and career development at LinkedIn News, even if you're not interested in working for one of them.

"Seaman believes that while not everyone can work at Verizon or Amazon, this list of qualities highlights what makes a good, solid employer. By measuring potential employers against these metrics, individuals can determine what they want or don't want from a workplace."
